The Confucius Institute of the state of Washington (CIWA) is proud to offer the 2013 Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for American high school students for the 3rd year in a row. This two-week program is structured to enhance understanding between American and Chinese high school students. Through a combination of classroom study and excursions, students will have a unique opportunity to expand their language skills while experiencing China’s rich culture, tradition, and history. The group will arrive in Beijing to attend the camp’s opening ceremony and then be assigned to a host school in one of the selected provinces. The application deadline is April 20. 

Dates: July 10 – July 25, 2013

Location: Beijing and one of the selected provinces (Tianjing, Henan, Shandong, Hunan, Zhejiang, Yunnan, or Jilin)

Cost: All costs in China, including room and board, transportation, activities and sightseeing will be covered by Hanban (Headquarters of Confucius Institute in China).

Program participants are responsible for:

    1. Round trip international airfare (estimated $1,500)
    2. International travel insurance
    3. Visa application fee (estimated $160)
    4. $200 administration fee to Confucius Institute of the State of Washington

Eligibility: High School students must meet the following requirements:

    1. Have American citizenship or passport
    2. Be in grades 9-12 (including graduating seniors and students who will be in 9th grade starting in the fall of 2013)
    3. Have 1-3 years of Chinese experience (non-native speakers of Chinese)
    4. Be healthy and able to travel internationally

Chaperons must meet the following requirements:

    1. Respect and understand Chinese culture
    2. Be approachable and responsible
    3. Have at least one year experience in K-12 education and working with students
    4. Be healthy and able to travel internationally
