SooChow University Student Art Performing Troupe arrived in Seattle on September 25, 2015, starting its culture and art exchange tour in the States. Its very first stop was Puget Sound University, partner of CIWA. Led by Director Lei Wu and Deputy Director Haiying Wu, the group received warm welcome from CIWA Directors and Professor Lotus Perry, Director of the Chinese Program at Puget Sound University. The performance started at 5:30 p.m., attracting many faculty members and students at the university, as well as community members.
The program kicked off with an elegant Han-style dance. Highlights include a Kunqu classic “Peony,” folk music instrument recital, and martial arts. Audiences were invited onto the stage to experience Chinese opera, practice some martial arts moves, and learn some simple Chinese. A lot of people found such interactive activities highly engaging and entertaining. At 7:00 p.m., the show ended with the song “Today’s your birthday, China.”
Through this event, Soochow University Student Art Performing Troupe not only showcased the unique beauty of Chinese culture to the American public, but also promoted the cultural exchange between the two nations.
