Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students

The Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students is an annual event organized by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in China. Over the past 16 years, the Chinese Bridge has become a platform for college students from all over the world to learn Chinese and understand China. The competition includes preliminary, regional, semi-final and final contests, with the preliminary competition organized by Confucius Institutes worldwide. All registered non-native Chinese college students are eligible to participate. Contestants enter to compete in three categories: Chinese language skills, knowledge about China and Chinese cultural skills. Winners of the regional competitions will be sponsored to compete in the semi-final and final in China, interact with young people from different cultures and explore Chinese culture through a variety of organized activities. Final winners will receive awards and scholarships to study in China.

 

“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛简介

 

“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛是由孔子学院总部(国家汉办)举办的年度中文比赛,是各国大学生学习汉语、了解中国的重要平台,也是中国与世界各国青年之间的一座沟通心灵的桥梁。比赛内容包括汉语语言能力、中国国情知识和中国文化技能。比赛分为预选赛、地区赛、复赛和决赛。其中预选赛由各孔子学院结合当地情况面向所在地大学生举办,凡在中国境外出生、母语为非中文的非中国籍大学生均可报名参加。优胜选手将赴中国参加半决赛和决赛,同时参加不同主题、丰富多彩的文化活动。决赛优胜者则将获得赴中国留学奖学金等奖励。

 

Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for College Students in WA

 

The Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for college students in Washington State is a local Chinese language contest open to all registered Washington state college students who are non-native Chinese speakers. The competition is co-organized by the Confucius Institute of the state of Washington and the Department of Asian Languages and Literature of the University of Washington. It also serves as a qualifying contest for the Regional Competition held by the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco. The contest adopts the same format and structure used by Hanban in the final competition, which includes a 3-minute prepared speech, a knowledge quiz on China and a Chinese culture talent show, each part worth 100 points with a total of 300 points. Participants can choose to compete in all three categories or only one or two categories. A database of questions on China and Chinese language will be provided by CIWA and AL&L at UW to help participate students prepare for the contest.

 

Part 1 – Prepared Speech: Constants will be asked to make a 3-minute speech on one of the ten topics provided prior. An invited panel of judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance based on the speaker’s Chinese language proficiency. (ten topics) 

Part 2 – Knowledge quiz on China: Contestants will be invited to answer 5 questions about China and Chinese language, each question worth 20 points. If more than one contestant receives the same highest scores, additional questions will be asked of each contestant until the final winner is decided. download questions)

Part 3 – Chinese cultural talent show: Contestants are invited to demonstrate a Chinese culture skill: singing a Chinese song, performing a Chinese dance, doing paper-cutting or Chinese calligraphy, reciting Chines poems, doing a martial arts performance, playing a Chinese music instrument, etc. The panel of judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance.

 

华盛顿州预选赛

“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛华盛顿州预选赛是世界大学生中文比赛在华盛顿州的地方赛事。比赛由华盛顿州孔子学院和华盛顿大学亚洲语言文学系主办。所有华盛顿州大学在校学生均可参加。比赛方式和结构与中国国家汉办举办的“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛决赛相同,共包括“中文命题演讲”、“中国国情知识问答”和“中国文化技能展示”三个部分, 每部分各计100分,总分共计300分。选手可选择参加全部三个项目的赛或者选择三个项目中的任意一至二项。华盛顿州孔子学院和华盛顿大学亚洲语言文学系将提供参考题库供参赛选手在准备比赛过程中使用。

 

第一部分中文命题演讲:选手从10个给定的题目中选择一个进行演讲。演讲时间不超过3分钟。选手该项成绩由评委现场打分,计入总成绩。(十个题目)

第二部分中国国情知识:每位选手从现场给定的20套选题中任意挑选一套试题(含5道小题),内容涉及汉语知识、中国文化和中国国情。每小题20分,5题共计100分。比赛顺序由选手在报到后现场抽取出场顺序,依次比赛。若出现两个或更多的最高分,则相同最高得分选手需重新选取一套试题(共五个小题),继续比赛,直至决出胜负。下载题库

第三部分中国文化技能:选手自选一项中国文化技能进行表演。文化技能包括唱歌、舞蹈、剪纸、朗诵、武术等。选手该项成绩由评委现场打分。

 

Eligibility

Participants should be:

  1. Registered undergraduate or graduate students in WA;
  2. Non-Chinese citizen
  3. Speakers of Chinese as a foreign language.

 

参赛资格:

美国华盛顿州在校大学生(包括本科生、研究生、继续教育学院学生),非中国国籍,母语为非汉语。

 

Registration and Participation

To register for the competition, interested students shall register online  (https://goo.gl/forms/E8WzhK1OaWAidC212). Registration will begin on February 1 and close on April 7, 2017. Participants can choose to compete in all three categories or only one or two categories.

Panel of Judges

 

A panel of 3-5 judges will be formed to evaluate the performances of all contestants. All judges will be distinguished professors or instructors of Chinese from different universities in Washington State or the Confucius Institute instructors from China.

 

评委组成

比赛现场评委由3-5位组成。评委由华州各大高校中文系(项目)中文教师或来自中国的孔子学院汉语教师担任。

 

Awards

 

  1. Participants with the first 3 highest overall scores and participants with the highest score for each of the 3 individual categories (prepared speech, knowledge quiz on China and Chinese culture talent show) will be recognized with trophies.
  2. The first and second-place winners of the Washington State competition will be nominated by the Confucius Institute to participate in the Chinese Bridge Regional Competition for US Northwest held by Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco. Round trip tickets and accommodation will be provided.
  3. The first place winner of the San Francisco regional competition will be nominated by the Chinese Consulate General to participate in the semi-finals held by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in China. International travel to and from China, local transportation, and accommodation in China will be provided during the competition. The second place winner of the regional competition will be sponsored by the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco to participate in the Chinese Bridge summer camp in China. The international travel, local transportation, and accommodation in China will be provided.

奖项的设置

  1. 比赛设综合一、二、三等奖各一名,和最佳演讲、最佳知识问答和最佳才艺表演三个单项奖。选手须参加全部三项比赛方方可参加综合奖的评选。奖项的评选依据现场评委给予各选手最后评分决定。优胜者将获得相应奖杯。

 

  1. 获得“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛华盛顿州预选赛综合奖第一名和第二名的选手将由孔院推荐,代表华盛顿州参加由中国驻旧金山总领馆举办的“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛美西北地区赛。选手赴旧金山参赛的往返机票及比赛前一天晚上的住宿由中国驻旧金山总领馆提供。

 

  1. 获得“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛美西北地区赛第一名的选手,将由中国驻旧金山总领馆推荐参加由孔子学院总部在中国举办的复赛,成绩优异者将进入总决赛。选手赴中国参赛的国际旅费及在中国参加比赛期间的交通、食宿由汉办提供。获得“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛美西北地区赛第二名的选手将由中国驻旧金山总领馆推荐以观摩团员身份参加“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛夏令营。选手赴中国参加夏令营所需的国际旅费及在中国参加夏令营期间的交通、食宿由汉办提供。
