Journey into the magical world of Chinese tea culture during the presentation session. Learn about tea varieties and processing, tea ware, brewing, and the pleasures of drinking tea. This interactive workshop will include a demonstration of Kungfu style brewing. Participants will enjoy tea-inspired poetry and tasting of Ms. Gissing’s collection of fine teas.
The full workshop to 4:30 will enable participants to practice brewing and serving tea in Kungfu style, plus the rare opportunity to try serving with a Sichuan-style long spout tea pot. Join us to discover why tea is a way of life for so many people the world over as we sip and savor tea with each other.
Chunman Gissing bridges Chinese and Western cultures through balancing a life of scholarship and teaching. She is a long-time volunteer with SCG and has presented her signature “For the Love of Tea” program for Seattle Parks Department, University of Puget Sound, University Prep, and other institutions. Her love of tea and special way of sharing knowledge has earned comments such as
“Taking your workshop is like taking a trip to China and back!” Participants also will learn about the Garden’s plan to build a teahouse as the next major pavilion. Join us for this delightful afternoon.
