CIWA 9th Anniversary

Come celebrate the 9th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington: Exploring the Seattle-China Connection

The Confucius Institute of the State of Washington (CIWA), a partnership of the University of Washington and Seattle Public Schools, is pleased to join the World Affairs Council in hosting the evening’s events as part of the celebration of CIWA’s 9th anniversary. CIWA will share highlights from its first nine (9) years and an update on what’s to come.

6 PM: CIWA 9th Anniversary Reception and opportunity to visit the museum exhibits, including the special Bruce Lee exhibit.

7 PM: The public program in the Tateuchi Story Theatre will feature a unique panel of students, moderated by Ryan Hauck from the World Affairs Council, for “A Look at Education in China and the US through the Eyes of Students.” The panel will include students from Nankai Secondary School in Chongqing visiting this spring at Chief Sealth International High School, as well as local students from Pathfinder K-8 and other schools who have traveled to China to visit their partner schools.

Global Classroom Teacher Program: An evening exploring the Seattle-China Connection

TEACHERS: Come check in starting at 4:30 PM on April 23 for a special Global Classroom teacher program. From 5 – 6 PM, you will enjoy a private guided tour of the Wing Luke Museum with other teachers. At 6 PM, you will join the CIWA 9th Anniversary Reception, gather resources, visit the Bruce Lee special exhibit, and explore the Seattle-China Connection with our local expert, Betty Lau. At 7 PM, you will attend the public program and be treated to a unique panel of students, moderated by Ryan Hauck from the World Affairs Council, for “A Look at Education in China and the US through the Eyes of Students.”

As always with Global Classroom teacher programs, teachers will receive 3 OSPI clock hours and curricular resources with full lesson plans to help bring your learning into the classroom.

This program is generously supported by the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington. Global Classroom workshops are co-sponsored by the Center for Global Studies at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.
