Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for High School Students in WA
The Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for high school students in Washington State is organized by the Confucius Institute of the state of Washington. The contest adopts the same format and structure used by Hanban in the final competition, which includes a knowledge bowl on China (100 points), a 3-minute prepared speech (100 points), and a Chinese culture talent show (100 points). Contestants can choose to compete either in all three categories or individual categories. A database of questions on China and Chinese language will be provided by CIWA to help participating students prepare for the contest.

Deadline to register: Sunday, March 11, 2018
Eligibility: Participants should be:
- High school students in the state of WA
- Born outside China
- Speakers of Chinese as a second language
Part 1 – Knowledge Bowl on China: Contestants will have an on-site paper test about China and Chinese language. The points will be counted into the final result.
Part 2 – Prepared Speech: Constants will be asked to make a 3-minute speech on the theme provided prior. 1-2 questions will be asked regarding the speech content. An invited panel of judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance based on the speaker’s Chinese language proficiency.

Part 3 – Chinese cultural talent show: Contestants are invited to demonstrate a Chinese culture skill: singing a Chinese song, performing a Chinese dance, doing paper-cutting or Chinese calligraphy, reciting Chines poems, doing a martial arts performance, playing a Chinese music instrument, etc. The panel of judges will evaluate each contestant’s performance.
